The Human Safety Net is a global movement of people helping people. Generali founded it and it’s active in 25 countries alongside 85 NGOs. It runs two programs: supporting vulnerable families with children aged 0-6 and fostering refugee integration through work and entrepreneurship. Launched in 2017, The Human Safety Net has involved over 800,000 people and contributed to the creation of over 650 refugee startups so far.
The Home of the Human Safety Net is located in the heart of Venice in Piazza San Marco, on the third floor of the Procuratie Vecchie. Once the headquarters of Generali, it is now open to the public with free admission for the first time in 500 years, serving as a hub for social culture and innovation. It’s also designed to contribute to and fuel the global conversation on the crucial challenges of the future. The opening was preceded by significant restoration work by David Chipperfield, winner of the 2023 Pritzker Prize.
The restoration of the Procuratie is part of a larger redevelopment project of the entire St. Mark’s area, which Generali proudly and passionately supported, culminating also in the restoration and reopening of the Royal Gardens in 2019.
At The Home of The Human Safety Net, conceived as an expression and accelerator of the foundation’s programs, visitors can embark on a captivating journey to discover their strengths with the permanent interactive exhibition “A World of Potential” and connect with programs for families and refugees, discovering how together we can make a difference.
